A number of parents expressed interest in keeping up with the team. In the Spring, we keep very busy with regional racing and community events, so to keep up with the team we have a team supporters email list.
Want to join the list? Instructions here!
Want to become a supporter of the team? Donation Instructions Here!
Our annual clothing order is happening in early November! Parents, alumni and fans of the team can order anything available to the team, everything from jerseys to shorts, jackets, vests, shoe covers -- the list goes on. For pictures and more information, jump on the team supporters email list, stay tuned to the website and check out our design here.
Some other quick and fun facts about the team:
- Our second annual bike safety rodeo at Edison Elementary went off without a hitch
- We continue to baffle our national competition with our stylish apparel
- However the podium at nats is also very nice
- Cyclocross is sweet....it doesn't matter how "wise" you are, you still try it!
- Watch our team video from 2008....the 2009 version is almost out of the oven so stay tuned!
Womens Team Time Trial:
Tense moments on the line for Roxy, Emily, Mia and Kendi at the start of Nats 2009 TTT - they crush MIT by over a minute.
Roxy did a great time trial and left it up to the big three to finish it off, Mia leading the charge in the final sprint for the line as the guys team (Nick, Zac, Colin and Glenn) cheer them in.
Mens Team Time Trial:
Nick, Colin, Duncan and Ben start Nats. They wound up placing 3rd, only 19 seconds off the win. Grabbing a podium was the goal for the event - first time on the podium in four year.
The guys almost at the line:
Favorite shot of the year after a perfect lead out train guaranteed a 1-2 finish for Ben and Duncan in the last criterium of the conference season.
That's all for now. Be sure to check back for more updates about the team's activities, and thanks again to everyone who helped make Family Weekend happen!

October 23rd, 24th, and 25th mark Whitman College's Family Weekend, a chance for parents of Whitman students to come and enjoy everything that the college has to offer. The cycling team is excited to announce that it will be putting on a few events for student cyclists and their families!!!
Team Rides: In addition to the usual team ride on Friday at 4:00, the team will be leading leisurely, 60-90 minute rides on Saturday (1:00p) and Sunday (10:00a). These rides are at "no-drop" pace, so don't be intimidated!! Come and ride with us. Possible stop for coffee/snacks afterward. Rental bikes available from Allegro Cyclery.
Team Clothing for Sale: Team caps ($10), socks ($8), and water bottles ($5) will be available for sale in the Reid Campus Center from noon-1:00p on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Visitors can also sign up to receive information about our Winter clothing order if they would like to purchase jerseys, shorts, or other items. Check out all of the team's kit here.
Increased Team Discounts at Allegro Cyclery: Allegro Cyclery already provides team members with discounted retail goods, but is using Family Weekend to promote Winter cycling gear for new riders. First year riders get an additional discount on Leg Warmers, Base Layers, Gloves, and Lights, so get them while they're hot!
Any questions can be directed to team president Colin Gibson (gibsoncn@whitman.edu). We hope to see a lot of family members out to ride. This could be the last weekend of fair weather before things turn south, so take advantage! See you out there!

Saturday, September 26 - Team Takes a Bite Outta' Cancer
This Saturday, the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center held their annual 'Gran Fondo' (Italian for Great Ride) fundraiser event. All proceeds from the event benefit cancer patients at St. Mary's, and our club has been fortunate enough in past years to participate. The day consisted a ride
of 20, 40, or 60 miles through the wheat fields around Walla Walla and Milton Freewater for the eight Whitties who woke up at the crack of dawn. Molly Blust and Claire Ostwald went for the 40-mile loop, while the other six bucked up and rolled out for the 60-miler. Three riders were about to embark on the longest ride of their lives...and it would be a hungry one.
Our large pack of riders was motivated by the spirit of charity, and whipped up a pace that got us to the first feed zone before the feeders arrived. No matter...onward and upward! We missed the second feed zone because of poor cartography skills, and arrived in Milton Freewater with patience worn thin, and bellies worn grumbly.
After a ravenous snack, it was full throttle back to Walla Walla Community College for the sausage fest that takes place following the ride.
We couldn't have asked for better weather or better riding company, and many thanks go to Mardi Hagerman and the whole St. Mary's crew for putting on such a great event.
